1. Meditation is the foundation of spirituality. If you meditate having your real goal before you, you are sure to arrive at the destination. ERY 19-20.
      2. Meditation-a part of Raj Yoga-is the only thing that can lead you to the end. There is no other means of approaching the Centre. We have seen that one thought arising out of the Centre created so big a universe. We have got within us the same central force, though marred by our wrong doings. We utilise the same power which is automatic in us. We take work from the same force through meditation. ERY 19-20
      3. Now we have taken heart as the centre of meditation. The blood that runs throughout our system is affected. The solidity due to our own thoughts and actions begins to melt away. This is the first thing we begin to gain, from the very first day, by this method of meditation on heart. ERY 16-17
      4. By meditation we create a temporary lull in our mind and calmness prevails for the time during which we are in touch with the divine force. RD 75
      5. We have to sit in one proper manner in order to receive the spiritual grace in the proper way otherwise it is possible that we may remain deprived of the real grace. TM 11
      6. We charge the place with our thought power when we practice meditation (Sandhya), sitting in that particular place which we have fixed for that work. TM 8
      7. The Mahatmas have stressed upon the principle and Western culture too supports the view that a separate place must be reserved for each type of work so that relevant thoughts conducive to the nature of the work may spring up on arriving at the place.
      8. Completing sandhya(meditation) before sunrise is stressed upon for the reason that the external heat and other influences, which have been driven out of the body may not creep in again by the effect of sunshine, by which we may not be able to derive the best advantage of time. TM 7
      9. Now the great souls have taken into consideration that time the external effects begin to get removed from it i.e it is the time when the heat gets exhausted , and soon after the exhaust of heat, cooler effect begins to come. The junction of these two is called Sandhi Gati. The Mahatmas and great souls have made devotional practice and worship obligatory at this time. TM 2
      10. There is a great philosophy underlying it ( meditation on the heart). We find ourselves all the time busy with wordly things, our thoughts seem to have wings in the leisure hours. We are always in tumult and disorder. Our individual mind has become used such a characteristic activity, and thus we have made every thing topsy-turvy our actions and thoughts count much in our wrong doing. When we remain in contact with ideas and thoughts of different kind, they leave impressions upon our emotive feelings and senses. The marks we thus make upon the senses and Indriyas turn them solid like rock, having no Bodh or wisdom. Soul is,no doubt , not acted upon , but we create such obstacles and coverings as to keep it enwrapped. We cannot even peep into the soul, let alone realising it. As a result we spoil our Vivek and right cognition. Those who have reached this state of solidity do not like to come under the training course of Raj Yoga. This is why people turn deaf ear to what we say. SMP 51
      11. While in meditation you wait for something and that is God. Waiting produces a sort of attraction automatically on account of continuous effort. It develops to such an extent that you can call a soul to you. If the attraction comes to the zenith, the greatest soul cannot refuse to come. Man’s power is not known by man because Godliness is not there. AB I P 23
      12. An Abhyasi should not try to see the light, but suppose it to be there. I may say that it is so much repelling to me that I try to be away from it. Light is only a shadow of Reality, and not Reality itself. We have to gain true Reality of which light is only material exposition. It is felt during the course of abhyas but we ignore it as superfluous. In fact we have to finally to arrive there where there is neither light nor darkness. VR I 36
      13. Crying for the light is nothing short of a mad fantasy, which displays its own colourfulness. VR I 232
      14. What, in fact, we feel during meditation is only simplicity and calmness, if we are rightly guided by a capable master. But an aspirant is generally unable to understand it, for it is beyond his conception at the early stages. The effect thus being imperceptible he often complains that he feels nothing during meditation. This is chiefly due to the fact that he remains in touch with the divine force only for a few minutes of practice. RD 75
      15. Meditation is the only process to achieve that end. Concentration is its natural result in due course. The proper method is to meditate all along remaining quite unmindful of the foreign ideas and thoughts coming to our mind during that time. RD 29
      16. There is Purity and Purity only in That. This highest standard of Absolute Purity, free from all impurities (mala), distortions (vikshep), and coverings (avaran), was taken up for the ideal. TM 12
      17. During meditation, if you entertain the idea that not you but your Master himself is meditating on his own form, it shall bring about excellent results. RD 77
      18. Self is all-pervading in man just as it is pervading in the entire Universe, taking the Universe as an integral whole. The state of pralaya comes when contraction takes place in the Universe. Similar contraction in man leads to his individual pralaya. This means that the begins to proceed from his state of grossness to the Real State. What can be the form of contraction in man? It is contracting one’s own expansion present through his body, in any way. The contraction always begins from below and gradually proceeds upwards because of its upward tendency. Therefore in order to go upwards, he must begin contracting from below. The form would then be to bring his legs and allied parts to one pose and to keep them steady. The form would finally be that of asan, in whatever way it might have been done. TM 10-11
      19. Mind thinks and heart gives signals for its correctness. The heart gives signals of different nature. To understand them is rather difficult. So far I could not find words to express this thing satisfactorily. But if a man practices he will ‘know’ the nature of it. It has come to my experience that every living organ of the body itself speaks when you concentrate over it. Concentration is one of the instruments for revelation only. You cannot ‘get God by concentration. In concentration you are one pointed to a certain object, while in meditation your sub-conscious only waits for something. Since your thought is for the Divine, you wait for Divinity. AB I P 7
      20. One thing is always felt on meditation that the effect of the condition of the Master is pervading into my inner self, and that is different from transmission. AB I P 76
